The Sound of Rain | Nashville Wedding Film | Bloomsbury Farm

Lauren called me up on a Sunday while I was on a little weekend getaway to visit my family in Atlanta. I don’t usually take business calls while I’m away— scratch that, I always take business calls and emails because I’m really bad at setting boundaries. So I picked up and instantly felt validated by my instincts. Lauren is (and this is not an overstatement) the funniest, most relatable person I have ever talked to on the phone. Naturally, I like to think we are kindred spirits. When I met Jason, he was equal to Lauren in every way. He didn’t mirror her, but fit next to her. He was exuberant, steadfast and really eloquent. I think it was a match made in bro heaven for Bill, too.

Lauren and Jason were married at Bloomsbury Farms, a serene little farm just outside of Smyrna, Tn. When we got there, the clouds were pretty ominous but the vibe was super energetic. The boys moved furniture and transported umbrellas in the midst of the downpour, while the ladies finished up the florals.

Bloomsbury Farms has these awesome little pockets of nature waiting to be discovered all over the property. There is a great little path surrounded by trees (where Jason and Lauren had their first look), a rustic patio with a huge fireplace (also doubling as a sweet rain plan strategy) and all manner of fields to romp and catch light in.

It rained all day, but Lauren and Jason were so chill; down for umbrellas and quick car transports. Nothing went as planned, but it ended up being the perfect day for these two badasses. When the reception flooded and knocked the power out, everyone used their phones to light up the dance floor. NBD.

The Corridors of Time

I remember my call with Ashley pretty much word for word. She told me that she was a fellow artist and that she had family on Signal Mountain, and was wanting to do a “Destination Holiday” wedding. What Holiday, you ask? My absolute favorite holiday? Our absolute favorite holiday? Christmas? Like, "You're putting up Christmas decorations and ivy, and you are wearing a fur stole and having a grande Christmas hall feast? Where do I sign up? And can I be in the wedding too?"

It pretty much went like that.

So we were jazzed, for sure, but when when we woke up on the Monday before Christmas to a cloudy and foggy winter morning that looked like an image straight out of Narnia, I was bugging out even more than I thought possible.

During the entire day, the anticipation was as palpable as the fog in the air. From the first look to the exit, Ashley and Mark literally could not stop smiling. Bill and I were lucky enough to watch their creative hearts melt together in a flurry of giggles, twirls, and thoughtful embraces. The whole day was seriously perfect; filled with twinkling lights, men in uniform, and the most tender family ties to one another. These two joined together and created one family that perfectly embodied the definition of the holiday.

I'm so glad Bill and I were able to film this gorgeous Holiday wedding, and, more importantly, to witness such a beautiful love. Ashley and Mark's passion for one another inspired us, and left us completely awestruck.

First Impressions

Getting to know Kyle and Victoria has been awesome. Since the first time we met at a little sandwich shop in Cartersville, we knew we liked them. For me, it was the fact that Victoria is a fellow onion-hater. For my wife, I believe it had something to do with Kyle taking her suggestion about ordering a chicken salad sandwich. Food is probably too important to us.

The more we got to know them, the more we liked them. As individuals, Kyle and Victoria are remarkable; confident, intelligent, and effortlessly good looking. Together, they are a force of nature. Victoria is in school to become a doctor, and Kyle is an engineer, so they weren’t intimidating at all. Besides, my wife and I are relatively accomplished at keeping a small child alive, so we had to tone it down a little.

In all seriousness, Victoria and Kyle are super down to earth and playful, as we learned during their wedding day. I have a pretty lengthy blooper reel of Victoria’s spontaneous dance moves and elaborate hand gestures. At one point, during sunset, she pulled a grape off the vine, threw it towards me and landed a direct hit on my camera lens, which was the most impressive thing I had seen in a while.

It became clear to us that Kyle and Victoria are the whole package, and their wedding was southern elegance at its finest. Nestled in the mountains of North Georgia, complete with a creek, a waterfall, and impeccable landscaping (that may or may not have compelled me to pull out a rake when I got home), it was nothing short of beautiful.

Congratulations to Kyle and Victoria! We wish you many many years of happiness!

Kelsey & Martin

These two were some of the most adventurous souls we have ever met. Opting for a destination wedding, Kelsey and Martin wanted everyone to experience the love they have for Chattanooga's architecture and atmosphere. The Church on Main’s historic preservation and The Flying Squirrels mid century vibes did just the trick. Kelsey and Martin even had a chance to steal away and venture to the top of Sunset Rock, back to the spot where Martin first proposed.

These two were like magnets, embracing each other as the wind and clouds erupted before them into a full blown rain storm. We raced back to the reception and were greeted by friends and family enjoying a slew of delicious tacos and cocktails.

Everyone kept talking about how Kelsey and Martin were like two puzzle pieces that just fit perfectly together. From their meeting at the Air Force Academy, to rock climbing, to living in a tiny home, their goals and dreams align.

Kelsey told us a little story about how she was drawn to Martin’s carefree and adventurous spirit and we can’t help but understand:

“Martin and I were in the same Arabic class at the Air Force Academy. He would fall asleep and the teacher would wake him up and try to stump him with a tough question... but he always effortlessly got the questions right! And I studied really hard and still had no idea what was going on. He was always talking to friends about their exciting weekend plans. It seemed like they went skiing every single weekend! We hung out one time with a mutual friend and started talking. He helped me study for my Arabic final, then baked a cake for my birthday (surprisingly difficult... we didn't have access to a kitchen as cadets). I noticed right away that he was adventurous and smart, but feeding me sugar ultimately sealed the deal! “

Taylor & Paul

Laid back, elegant, and ready to party. If I could describe Taylor and Paul's wedding in one sentence, that would be it. With settings ranging from a tucked away vineyard to the heart of Chattanooga's Art District, their weekend was the perfect atmosphere for an adventurous couple.

From the exchanging of leis, to the potting of a young Japanese Maple during their ceremony, Taylor and Paul's wedding was full of memorable and unique displays of unity. At the reception, Taylor’s friend and coworker serenaded the guests with her ukulele, while family and friends dined on Southern, Italian, and Hawaiian fare, followed by a plethora of delectable desserts.

Taylor and Paul even orchestrated a very special dance at their reception; each married couple ranging from one day of marriage to 45 years was asked to leave the dance floor until Paul’s grandparents were the last couple dancing. This detail really hit home with me. It was great to see legacy and longevity honored in such a special way.

I know that legacy is blossoming anew in the steady companionship Taylor and Paul so effortlessly personify. In the words of Paul's dad, "a la nostra famiglia!"
